A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: AN UNDEFEATED MIND

On 11 March 2022, Mind Science Centre debuted its signature fund-raising event of the year – a Juke-Box Musical titled ‘An Undefeated Mind’. Months of preparation bloomed into a full-house turnout on the fateful night and the audience were blown away by the amazing performance from our talented cast and production team.

In our previous behind-the-scenes articles, we expressed our heartfelt thanks multiple times to the cast and production team for their dedication and endless patience to perfect each scene with rounds of rehearsals. Here’s the rehearsal collation video:

Beyond that, we would like to highlight the hard work of the front-of-house team who has been working tirelessly behind all the stage glamour, to bring this event to the public and key stakeholders. Their names may not be in the program booklet, but if you’ve attended the musical, you’d probably interacted with them at the poster exhibition or whilst you are entering the venue.

We are grateful to all who has contributed in one way or another to make this musical a resounding success.

To express our gratitude to the distinguished donors who generously supported the Wee Sin Tho Memorial Fund, we produced a special video that documented the meaningful legacy of the late Mr Wee.

This space will be updated with video highlights when its ready. For now, here’s some photos of the meaningful night.

The amazing power vocal trio brought us into Rose’s world of reality through the song ‘Rose, Rose, I Love You’, as the scene opened to Rose’s memory of her 21st birthday party, the day when she met the love of her life – Patrick.

Rose took the centre stage and dazzled the guests of her party with a performance of ‘Cha Cham Bo’, setting the personality of our main protagonist as a confident and charming lady.

The chemistry between Rose and Patrick beautifully portrayed as they danced to the song ‘Something Stupid’.

A promise of unwithering love by Patrick with a song – “I’ll be there”, written just for Rose.

The very moment Rose kept close to her heart while she struggled to cope with her early dementia symptoms. A simple wish that she will never forget these beautiful memories with the love of her life.

Fleur then brightened up Rose’s day through a medley of “What a Wonderful World” and “Top of the World”.

Rose’s friends joined in the medley to cheer Rose up. Rose slowly recognizes that she will never be alone on her dementia journey.

The moment of realization for Peter – Lily’s Fiancé, who struggled at understanding what Lily was going through as a caregiver initially. Through his boss’s sharing, he realized that there are community activities and support he and Lily can tap on. Living well with Dementia is possible.

A visit by Patrick in her dreams encouraged Rose to never give up and start taking active steps to cope with her fading memories. With her daughter and friends by her side, the way forward may be uncertain, but never alone.

Every memory holds a moment of warmth and a tinge of sadness. It’s a goodbye, till we meet again.

You are undefeatable, so why not today! The iconic adaptation of the song Y.M.C.A. that encourages all to take active steps today. It’s never too early or too late to start today!
